Privacy Policy

UTMAX ("we," "our," or "the app") is a course registration planning tool for UT Austin students. This policy describes how the website at utmax.tech and the UTMAX browser extension handle information.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising, credit decisions, or unrelated purposes.

What we store on your device

Most UTMAX data stays on your device in your browser:

Saved schedules and course/section picks
Registration progress (locked and skipped sections)
Ranking preferences (A-rate, GPA, time-of-day, etc.)
Theme and UI settings
Overlay panel position and size (extension only)

The browser extension uses Chrome storage to sync this data between the main app tab and the floating overlay on UT pages, because embedded iframes cannot share the same browser storage as the top-level site.

Browser extension

The UTMAX extension:

Injects a user-controlled floating panel on *.utexas.edu and utmax.tech pages
Loads the registration assistant from our server (/embed) inside that panel
Syncs schedule data through extension storage as described above

The extension does not:

Collect or store your browsing history
Read, scrape, or modify UT Direct registration form content
Log keystrokes, clicks, scroll position, or mouse activity
Access your UT Austin login credentials

Remote code

The extension package contains the overlay shell only. When you open the panel, it loads the UTMAX web application from utmax.tech inside a sandboxed iframe. This lets us ship app updates without republishing the extension for every change. Remote code is served only from utmax.tech domains declared in the extension manifest.

Server requests

When you use the app, it may contact our servers to:

Load the shared UT course catalog (/api/catalog)
Check extension version compatibility

These requests do not include your saved schedules unless you explicitly submit feedback (see below).

Optional feedback

If you choose to send feedback through the in-app form, we collect what you submit: your message, optional name, email or social handle, and basic technical metadata (browser type, page URL, app version, anonymized usage counts). This is used only to respond to your feedback and improve the product. You are never required to submit feedback.

Third parties

We do not sell or rent your data. Messages you send through our the contact form is delivered via email services we configure. Hosting and analytics providers may process technical logs necessary to operate the site. We do not share your schedule data with third parties for marketing.

Data retention and deletion

Data stored in your browser can be cleared by removing the extension, clearing site data for utmax.tech, or using your browser's storage controls. Feedback you submit is retained only as long as needed to address your request.

Children

UTMAX is intended for college students. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of UTMAX after changes means you accept the updated policy.
